Introduction

Background of the Study

Time is changeable either positive or negative. It has flexible features. Things has been changed from generation to generation .as the way in Nepal many things has been changed as well as new things replace the old things. Press in Nepal is also one of the examples of that. Press has been changing from its birth to till now. In medias different sorts of structure had practiced for commercial purpose or reader benefits. Though it’s purpose for anything it play vital role to develop the trend of media in Nepal.

In Nepal mass media just started after its existence in our neighbor country India. And after the establishment of democracy 2007 mass media came in existence in our country. And 1990, the restoration of multiparty democracy guaranteed the press freedom more widely than constitution that ever existed in Nepal. They are bounded within the four article which alpha hope and aspiration to the Nepali media house. Those symbols of hope and aspiration are mentioned below:

A)     Article (12): Right to Expression

B)      Article (13): Right to press and publication

C)      Article (16): Right to information

D)     Article (29): Right to privacy

Then many Medias came in existence among them Kantipur Publications, (Pvt.) Ltd. one of them. It is the first media organization in Nepal to gain membership to the World Association of Newspaper. It is situated in Kantipur complex, Subhidanagar, Kathmandu, Nepal. The Company operates five widely circulated print publications and Kantipur newspaper is one of them. It was launched in February 1993, exactly two years after Nepal’s constitution was amended to permit a free press. Its founder is Shyam Goenka who at barely 29 years of age had a vision of a free press and institutionalization of journalism in Nepal. Its editor in chief is Shudhir Sharma. This media played a vital role to change trend in the mass communication and journalism. when is started to publish movie story and many more who is the first movie repoter?

It has started to publish movie beat on its daily newspaper. The kantipur publication house also includes movie popcorn on its sub copy KOSAYLI and weekly paper SAPTAHIK. But here the content analysis of movie coverage on its daily paper “KANTIPUR” It is an efficient way to investigate the content of media in any systematic procedures, devices to examine the content of recorded information.

This analysis is prepared according to practical work of the subject Mass Communication and Journalism second paper of B.A 2 years. This analysis is done by after collecting 15 days KANTIPUR daily newspaper.

Research is an attempt to discover things in order to reach a decision either through applied or academic. As the way it is an applied research which is conducted for theoretical approached. This analysis is based on the observation of the content. It has presented the descriptive form of research that inquires the state of affairs as it exists at present tenses in presenting the movie coverage in newspaper. It has contents of everyday collection from September/06/2010 to September/19/2010 and also includes their comparison.

Objective of the Study

Without identifying the destination just walking has not any meaning at the same time there is not any sureness to reach up to particular place. So forth, before walking we have to clear cut about our goals and objectives of our walking. As the same way, the analysis of this study has focused on the following key point to get out the findings.

A)     To inform and educate readers about sort of movie coverage on Kantipur national daily newspaper.

B)      To analyze the how KANTIPUR published movie issues within 15 days.

C)      To gain familiarity with current procedure of publishing movie coverage and to show news insight into it.

D)     To identify whether movie coverage published in the pages covered celebrity show biz or movie analysis or shooting report or releasing report or others.

E)      To study the impact of ideology of media house on practicing movie coverage.

F)      To find out truth which is hidden and which has not been discovered yet on the issues of movie coverage.

G)     To find out which types of headline format are using by Kantipur.

Methodology of the Study

It refers to the methods or techniques that used in performing research operations during the course of study. It is a way to systematically solve the research problem. It may be understood as a science of studying how research is done scientifically. In it, we study the various steps that are generally adopted in studying research problem along with logic behind them.

Methodology used in this content analysis process is simple and short. This data collection is not secondary but primary one. The data is collected by direct, deliberate, minute study and random collection of 15 days newspaper of Kantipur publication. And we have cut the main movie coverage story of the same newspaper. Then we have collected and attached it to the last part of this report.

This is an analysis prepared about the movie coverage in the kantipur newspaper. In this analysis we have presented these through a method i.e. observation. Through observation, we have collected the necessary materials for our analysis according to their importance.  While preparing this report tables are also inserted to present data in a systematic way. 

Limitation of the study

Limitation or scope of the study is marked being concerned to time, financial, resources, materials and dedication and devotion. Following sentences may help to make this study more reliable and valuable. They are;

A)     The analysis has been limited to look at a particular topic as the way this analysis covered the movie beat only.

B)      Likewise we are not given freedom to go out of our topic and we have just presented the content without including any other things.

C)      The analysis has compared from September/06/2010 to September/20/2010.Where we have randomly collected the 15 days newspaper on the movie coverage.

D)      For this, materials are taken out from only one newspaper that is KANTIPUR of kantipur publication house.

Preparing Research Design

It is a conceptual structure within which this study is conducted. It contains a clear statement of the study’s problem, procedure and techniques which used for gathering information and sample to study and methods to use in collecting, processing and analyzing the data. While studying this topic following research design had been used by considering research goal, units of analysis and point of focus and time dimension. They are;

Sample Design: Probability sampling design is used on this study. It constitutes the blue print fpor the collection, measurement and analysis of data. As a sample we have randomly collected 15 volume of single national daily newspaper “Kantipur”. As a sample size and weighting we have filing newspaper from September/06/2010 to September/20/2010.

Descriptive Design: The research is designing on descriptive form. In advance of collection and analysis of data descriptive language is used. Data is presented with brevity and key pointed sentences.It minimizes bias and maximizes the reliability. In the report, there is clear description of each day medi coverage on the movie.

Obeservational Design: The datas are referenced through the obeservation method.And through it report is designed in simple and clear format.The report is prepared after obeserving one of private national daily newspaper “Kantipur” from September/06/2010 to September/20/2010.

Study tool: In this study, there is no any significant study tool used. As it is a short and simple analysis, it has taken the same 15 pieces of newspaper as its study tool.

Data Analysis

 Every media houses have their own code of conduct. Every publication house has their own strategy and structure to published text and picture on their paper. They always effort to attempt reporting of all those journalism beat. In general, newspaper’s spaces are coveted into article, advertisement, sports, news, economic, entertainment and so on. As the way, “Kantipur” Vouchsafe space to movie on the Jeevan and Shaeli pages. Mostly 11 12 pages covered movie story.

Different publication houses covered movie story according to their own way. As the way, in this study we have discussed about the movie story of “Kantipur” daily newspaper which is covered from September/06/2010 to September/20/2010. In the below there are drawing the finding which found by the help of 15 days observations. They are;

1)      It was the alpha day of data collection. In this day Kantipur had been published mavie analysis of Dasdhunga” by Sushil Poudel from Kathmandu. The headline had been presented in crossline.

Left Flushed headline”Jholungay pool became shooting spot” also covered in same day as a shooting report by Bimal Khatiwada.

2)      Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

3)      On this day “Kantipur” covered movie story on the interview format with the director Ukesh Dahal about movie “Palpalma”. “Palpalma make the record” in the headline of this day.and the headline is in Left Flushed format.

4)      This day included shooting report by Bimal Khatiwada from prabat of “Nakaihu” on the Left Flushed headline “Nakaiphu  to bring youngster back to home”.

During those day Buds film fiesta were running but suddenly censored board banned the festival. And the same issue had been covered in Left Flushed headline by Kantipur reporter, ktm.

5)       Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

6)      Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

7)      After a week of data collection “Kantipur” published second movie analysis by Sushil Poudel, Kathmandu in the Left Flushed headline “Deepshikha-Talatuli Batuli”

8)      On the ghai jatra celebration  comedy character Kiran K.C. praised for his continuous contribution on comedy by Kantipur reporter, Lalitpur in the left flushed headline.

The issue of Namrata who became heroine from the modeling background. The headline is presented in short long short format. “Anexity of not getting love” crossline headline is presented while covering this movie issue. It is movie analysis of “Palpalma”.

9)      This day’s movie coverage tells about the shooting report of movie “Malati ko Bhati” in crossline headline.

On the same day publication house covered the issue about two film Newari making . And same headline format  crossline headline had beend used.

10)   “Kanitpur” newspaper covered the issue of movies market as the headline up and down on the    audiences. Releasing report of movie “Thygana” has been published.

11)   Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

12)   Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

13)   Kantipur Publication house do not covered any movie issue on this day.

14)   “Palpalma replace Dabang” covering this topic in the Left flushed headline, most of the audience became shocked witth  this newspaper . Because one of the bollywood movie had been replaced from Nepali cinema hall by the nepali movie.

15)   Tamang Flim Association decide to establish Tamang flim club in every district and this issue had been covered on this last day of my data collection. 

Drawing Conclusions and Generalising Results

Findings

When the newspapers include only selected subjects it will provide negative effects to the reader who are most interested in other subject. Research is done to finding the problems related to its topic. During the research we  faced not only was the long scaled problem but also short. It is said that people are more like to familiar with entertainment. As the way every newspaper vouchsafe the space for entertainment. So forth “Kantipur” national daily is also doing.

While performing the content analysis of the 15 days “Kantipur” daily newspapers coverage on the movie issues we found many loopholes. Some of them are enlisted below;

A)     During the research we do not found importance provided to covered movie issues. Every day movie issues were not covered. And even provided content were biases  and imbalances.

B)      Within 15 days amnog  14 movie issues, more than eight headlines were in left flushed format. Other types of headline were barely used.

C)      Mostly shooting and releasing report had been covered.

D)     Similarly “Kantipur” fail to covered  issues about documentary making. It only focused to cover about the issues of Featured film.

E)      Mostly, movie coverage are based on the Kathmandu.

Conclusions and Recommendation

Conclude: This report helps to amplify the use of different types of headline.Furthure helps to covered movie coverage out of Kathmandu valley too.This study also helps to covered movie in everyday  base which is one of the powerful parts of literature than anything else.We believe that this study help to develop the trend of covering movie issues.

Recommendation: They should covered movie issues on the everyday based. They should covered movie not only shooting report but alos analysis, audiences perspectives.They must have to give the space to documentary making not only featured film.They have to used different types of headline not only Left Flushed headline format.
