Recognize to chief engineer : Editor

 Recognize to chief engineer: Editor

Film is collaborative process that begins with the screenwriter and ends when as audience responds to the story. How they respond to film is largely determined by how well a film is crafted. While crafting the movie whole film crews have contributed from their own sides. And these holistic approaches crafted the movie well which enhances the audience’s journey through subtle rhythm. But audience, media, movie critics either barely recognized or never noticed to those persons who are contributing behind the curtain. One of them is editor who is chief engineer of the movie. Film is described as very effective only after how editor perform his/her task otherwise long and boring purport by Bikash Runiyar reporter of the Kantipur Newspaper.
In general, editor has to do with the establishing of rhythm and reconstruction of the story and glorify them. During the first period all the events recorded taken different angles, shot with movement or in stasis shot with different lenses, composed in different ways with coveted lighting will be regarded as footage. The editor takes those footages of director and screen writer’s original script and mingle them and bring them into  a certain time  approximately two or three hour.
Aakash Adhikari, director and actor of movie “Kathmandu” mentioned that, editor do not only perform “cutting and Pasting”  task. Moreover, he implies his creative decisions power to mould every single moments of scene with all the possibilities that involved in the script writing and the shooting. “Shots are carefully selected to increase tension, to enhance emotional journey, to evoke laughter, tears or screams, or to make the audience squirm in their seats and also helping the audience by determining how long each of these thoughts are,  how long the audience is going to think about any given things” – first nepali women film editor, Rachhay Rana alleged  this.
Every time, there is a shift from one image to another, it is an edit. It is a means of expression, with its own language. This language is crafted in the editing room. And to make these languages best, editor have to integrate with other means of expression as well, which is required for the given film. Editor deals with all aspects of filmic rhythm – from the transition of one image to another or the detailed musical rhythm in a small sequence of edit to the most general balancing pace and rhythm in the overall narrative structure”. Badri Lamichhanay, editor of the movie “Nai Nabhaannu La” opined that - editing is not easily tagged as a hidden art by the thinker. It is tagged after considering the efforts and passion of editor”. Editor scrutiny creative decisions jolt the audience, jar the storytelling, rubbish the appearance of actors, and interrupt the emotional journey that audience takes place. So for that, editor creates the flow and energy in the scene and build the scene into the sequences. And until the editor begins to assemble the different images of the film, it is not clear whether- and to what degree – the intentions of the script have survived the shooting. This process helps to find out how well the director, has succeed on the set and to (re) create the script of original intentions.
But media ignore them. They never recognized their labor and always backward to evaluate their firm. For a film editor it is cause for frequent amusement or irritation that film reviewers media who never try to find out the editor’s contribution. Pragay Dahal one of the nepali movie audience also agree that media always talk about the appearances character and about the synopsis of nepali movie is very bad they synopsis by comparing with hollywood and bollywood but off screened crews are always remained behind the curtain. Even cinema, film fare magazine or tv show  fail to talk about their labors and personality. In opposition of this statement, Shrijhana Rauniyar  who worked as a assistant director in many indian serial and movie,  relate it with Indian provoke i.e “ Jo Daykhati Hay o hi to Bikti hay, Jo nahi daykhati o Kedar bikti”? Dinesh Wagle one of the profound reporter of the Kantipur Media House also quoth that movie creates glamor, reader immediately  attracts with that glamor, so media also need to go towards that glamor it is our compulsion.  Rarely reader wants to know about the other  besides the glamor character rather to them whom they never see. Reporter Bikash Rauniyar also claimed reader never wish to know about the person who worked behind the curtain of the screen then what’s the meaning to write about them. These things are not wrong because we always recognized the appearances character than other. It is not only the problem of the Nepali movie crew, even hollywood and other countries movie crew are facing the same problem. And its main reason is that audience themselves. Do you know any name of the camera person , dress designer, make up person, choreographer, stage designer, editor  and more of the recent movie which you had been watched? Think about it. Start to recognized them too. The loopholes of the nepali movie is not only because of the filmmaker we Nepali audiences as well. We hardly watched a nepali movie but we are one steps while criticizing nepali movie. How many people knew about those movie which is nominated in the oscar award, such as “Mukundo” and so on . So first impression is not always became the last impression. And each and every ones work is very important. And each and everyone have a influencing personality. So we have to respect each and every one’s ability and their labors no matter either they are  on screened character  or off screened.  We have to recognized each and every one’s ability.
